California Prop 65 Notice

What is California Proposition 65

California’s Proposition 65, formally known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, is a state law that requires businesses to provide warnings when products may expose consumers to certain chemicals listed by the State of California as potentially causing cancer or reproductive harm.

Proposition 65 applies only to products sold in California and covers a wide range of consumer goods, including foods, beverages, and dietary supplements. These warnings are commonly seen throughout California in restaurants, grocery stores, hotels, and retail products.

Why Supplements Sometimes Carry a Proposition 65 Warning

Some chemicals listed under Proposition 65 (such as lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury) occur naturally in the environment. Trace amounts can be present in soil and water and may be absorbed by plants used to produce mineral- and botanical-based ingredients.

As a result, even well-sourced, responsibly manufactured supplements can require a Proposition 65 warning if exposure exceeds California’s extremely conservative threshold levels.

Are Products with a Proposition 65 Warning Unsafe

A Proposition 65 warning does not mean a product is unsafe or harmful.

The warning is intended to provide disclosure, not to assess overall product safety. California’s threshold levels are often significantly lower than federal and international safety standards, and many common foods can also carry similar warnings.

What is Volista Health doing regarding Proposition 65

Product safety and transparency are a priority to us. We take the following steps to ensure quality:

  • Third-party testing of finished products
  • Screening for heavy metals and contaminants
  • Verification of ingredient identity and purity
  • Manufacturing in facilities that follow FDA dietary supplement guidelines
  • Clear disclosure when a Proposition 65 warning is required

When a naturally occurring substance exceeds a California reporting threshold, we provide the appropriate warning in accordance with the law.
